Lady Seawolves Honor Eight on Senior Day

South Portland - This afternoon the Lady Seawolves recognized eight young ladies during senior day when the Seawolves faced off against YSCC opponent Vermont Technical College (VTC). The Seawolves used offensive contributions from every player on the roster to propel themselves past the Knights, 92-28.

Senior center Alicia Hoyt (Steep Falls, ME) scored the first five points of the game, spurring an 11-0 SMCC run. VTC's Austin LaFrance skidded the run with a jumper but Seawolves' shooting guard Desitinie Montano (Chicopee, MA) answered with a made layup and a three pointer to extend the SM lead to 16-2. Seawolves' shooting guard Kendra Kagiliery (Kittery, ME) closed out the quarter with back to back layups to give SM a 24-7 lead heading into the second. The Seawolves carried their momentum through the second quarter where they outscored the Knights 23-2, which included seven points from center Amira Jones (Chicopee, MA).

The Knights opened the third quarter with back to back baskets but a Sammie Griffin (Union, ME) three pointer started a 7-0 Seawolves run to put the lead up to 54-13. SM wrapped up the third with a pair of three pointers from Jones and Kagiliery to take a 70-17 advantage into the final period. The Knights found some offensive rhythm in the fourth, starting the quarter with a 7-2 run thanks to two jumpshots and a free throw from Micheala Farmer, but the Seawolves answered with a 4-9 shooting performance from beyond the arc en route to the 92-28 victory.

Griffin, Jones and Maria Veino (Sanford, ME) led the Seawolves with 12 points apiece and the trio combined for 11 rebounds. Abigail Nielsen (North Yarmouth, ME) added 11, Montano netted 10 and Kagiliery and Hoyt each pitched in nine. Point guard Jordan Turner (Casco, ME) finished with a game high 10 assists.

Farmer paced the Knight with nine points and six rebounds and Shana Linwood-McLaughlin added eight points.

The Seawolves(21-7, 9-4 YSCC) will wrap up regular season play tomorrow when they host Navy Prep at 11am.
