SeaWolves Cruise to 41-Point Victory to Remain Unbeaten

AMHERST, Massachusetts— The Southern Maine Community College women's basketball team captured win number 12 in its 74-33 defeat over Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC)-opponent Hampshire College on Friday, Dec. 9.

First-year Alicia Ruth (Plaistow, N.H.) led the SeaWolves with 17 points, making five of 11 from three-point territory. First-year Emily Hogan (Jay, Maine) matched her season-high point total, pouring in 15 and shooting near 50 percent from the floor. Both seniors Jennifer Conrad (Monmouth, Maine) and Jennifer Gendron (South Portland, Maine) recorded season-highs with seven steals.

The SeaWolves held Hampshire to just 11 points in the first half, and outscored their opponent by 12 in the second. On the defensive end, SMCC improved on its conference-best points-allowed average forcing Hampshire into 36 turnovers in the game. SMCC's offense was creative in tallying 25 assists as a team, another season-high.

Head Coach Katie Bergeron commented, "We came into the game not knowing much about this Hampshire squad. After a long bus ride, the girls were able to get themselves mentally focused and come out firing making 10 three-pointers in the first half! The girls were incredibly unselfish and were always looking for the extra pass- giving our shooters open looks that they knocked down. It was a fun team win!"

The SeaWolves remain unblemished improving to 6-0 in conference play, and 12-0 overall.

SMCC will complete its two-game weekend slate in Albany, N.Y. in a non-conference game against 5-3 Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences on Saturday, Dec. 10. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
