CONCORD, N.H.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team was bounced from the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) postseason tournament after suffering a 65-52 loss to the #2 Moose from the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) in the semifinal round on Saturday, Feb. 17.

SMCC strung together a 8-2 run off the tip but eventually fell behind by a three-point spread, 15-12, after the first quarter of action.

Midway through the third quarter both teams lost their First Team All-Conference players, SMCC's Abigail Ramirez(Methuen, Mass.) and UMA's Caitlin LaFountain, to apparent head injuries.

Following the injury to Ramirez, the SeaWolves were energized by sophomore Alicia Ruth (Plaistow, N.H.) who flushed back-to-back three-pointers to cut the deficit from 13 to seven points with three minutes to go in the third.

UMA leaned on Carmen Bragg for eight points in the fourth quarter to seal the 13-point victory.

Despite 21 total turnovers, the Moose combined for 52.2 percent shooting from the floor and 41.2 percent from beyond the arc to better SMCC's point total by three or more in each of the four quarters.

First-year Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine) collected her ninth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds in 30 minutes. Ruth contributed 10 points connecting for 3-4 from three.

The Moose finished three in double figures led by LaFountain's 14 points on 5-6 shooting.

The Moose move on to play #1 Central Maine Community College in the conference championship game on Sunday, Feb. 18.

The Lady Wolves will await the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division 2 National Championship bid selection videos on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 5 p.m. for a chance at an at-large bid to Uniontown, Penn.
