BROOKLINE, Mass.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team picked up its first win of the season, taking down Fisher College 63-45 at Hellenic College on Wednesday, Nov. 4

The teams traded quarters in the first half to leave Fisher ahead by a two-point advantage. Sophomore captain Tara Flanders (Windham, Maine) put away 11 of the team's 22 third-quarter points to gain an 11-point separation; SMCC piled on another 17 points and limited the opposition to just 10 in the final period.

First-year Hannah Richards (Bradley, Maine) led all scorers with 17 points on 4-9 shooting, 8-12 from the free-throw line. Flanders posted 15 points, sophomore captain Ashleigh Mathisen (Portland, Maine) scored 13, and sophomore Aija Andrews (Norwalk, Conn.) grabbed 10 rebounds.

Head Coach Katie Stannard commented, "The team needed this bounce-back win in which everyone contributed with effective minutes. After a slow start, we dominated the second half getting a better shot selection and taking care of the glass. I hope to build on the momentum as we prepare for the weekend."

SMCC gets to 1-1 on the season.

Next, the SeaWolves face off against the Naval Academy Preparatory School in non-conference action on Saturday, Nov. 6. Tip off inside the Hutchinson Union Building is set for 1:00 p.m.
