SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team took down the Midshipmen from the Naval Academy Preparatory School 83-50 in non-conference action inside the Hutchinson Union Building on Saturday, Nov. 6.

The SeaWolves converted on their first two attempts to begin the game and connected for a 15-4 run to finish the first quarter. The SMCC offense continued to roll posting 26 points in the second and third quarters to get in front 72-34 and secure its second consecutive victory.

As a team, the SeaWolves fired 40.0 percent from beyond the arc and assisted on 23 of 27 made field goals.

Sophomore captain Ashleigh Mathisen (Portland, Maine) led all scorers in the game with 18 on 4-9 from downtown. First-year Hannah Richards (Bradley, Maine) tallied her third double-digit performance in as many games with 11, adding eight assists. Navy's Shannon Clarke and Rashiya Howell both scored 17.

Head Coach Katie Stannard commented, "We made the adjustment and started producing from the tip. Today we showed our full complement of offensive weapons; when we finish the job and knock down open looks we are tough to handle. Always a well-coached team, a result against Navy is a good one."

SMCC improves to 2-1 overall; Navy Prep sits at 1-1.

The Lady SeaWolves continue at home in a meeting with the Bengals from the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Thursday, Nov. 11. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
