ALBANY, N.Y.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team picked up its first Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) victory at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) 72-57 on Sunday, Nov. 14.
Both teams traded quarters to begin the game, leaving SMCC ahead 35-21 at halftime. The SeaWolves were out-scored 19-20 in the third quarter before gaining separation in the fourth limiting their opponent to just six points.
First-year guard Hannah Richards (Bradley, Maine) scored a career-high 23 points and sophomore captain Tara Flanders (Windham, Maine) used 10 points and 13 rebounds to tally her first double-double of the year.
Albany's Dida Sluserek topped all scorers in the game with 24 on 10-19 shooting.
The result moves SMCC to 3-1 overall, 1-0 in conference action; Albany stands 1-2 on the season, 1-1 YSCC.
Next, the Lady Wolves host the Bengals from the University of Maine at Fort Kent (USCAA Div. 1) in non-conference action on Thursday, Nov. 18 (rescheduled from Nov. 11). Tip-off inside the Hutchinson Union Building is set for 5:00 p.m.
