SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team topped the Knights from Berkley College (USCAA) 84-75 on Sunday, Dec. 5.

SMCC led 72-53 to begin the fourth, outscoring Berkeley in all of the first three quarters. The Knights showed life late putting together a 22-point period but the SeaWolves did enough to interrupt with timely baskets on the other end—and run the clock to a 9-point victory.

As a team, SMCC connected for 44.6 percent from the field and counted on 51 points from the bench.

Three finished in double figures for the SeaWolves highlighted by sophomore Aija Andrew's (Norwalk, Conn.) 18 points on 8-13 shooting. First-year guard Allexius Theberge (Standish, Maine) totaled a career-high 17 points coming off the bench, and first-year Hannah Richards (Bradley, Maine) contributed 12 points and four assists.

Berkeley's Kaina Martinez led all scorers in the game with 23, adding seven assists. Amal Mahmoud finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

SMCC wins its sixth straight to get to 6-1 overall; Berkley remains winless at 0-5.

The Lady SeaWolves get back to conference scheduling when they host the Herons from Great Bay Community College on Wednesday, Dec. 8. Tip-off at The HUB is set for 6:00 p.m.
