SeaWolves Take Down Bobcats, Stannard Earns 100th Career Win

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team ran away with a 96-45 victory over the Bobcats from Paul Smith's College in a make-up Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) contest at the HUB on Tuesday, Jan. 11.

The Lady SeaWolves connected for a season-high 48.1 percent from the floor (39-81) and matched a season-high 26 assists to earn their 10th win of the season and keep pace in the conference standings at 5-1.

First-year Shea Pickering (Drewsville, N.H.) topped all scorers with 20 points adding nine rebounds (seven offensive) and three steals to her totals. Four others finished in double figures, getting 15 off the bench from first-year Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine) and an efficient stat line from sophomore captain Tara Flanders (Windham, Maine)—12 points, 10 boards, six assists.

Paul Smith's Jordan Louis led her team with 14 points in 38 minutes on the floor.

The result gains Head Coach Katie Stannard her 100th career victory inside her fifth season at the helm. She stands 100-29 overall (.775 win%) and 55-13 in YSCC play.

Regarding her career milestone, Coach Stannard commented, "It's a funny milestone for just the head coach because there's so many people involved […] my players went out and won, my assistants are here every day, and I've had a wonderful support system at home with my family. It's really this program's 100th win."

These two teams will do it again on Saturday, Jan. 15 to finish the regular season series. Tip-off inside the HUB is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. **No spectators are permitted.
