Lady Wolves Defend The HUB In Pivotal YSCC Showdown

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team played to a 70-54 defeat of the Moose from the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) in the second league meeting between the sides on Wednesday, Jan. 26.

SMCC jumped ahead early on an 18-4 run and closed the first half with an 11-point advantage. The Moose clawed their way back putting up 21 points in the third quarter, but the SeaWolves responded with 24 in the fourth on their way to their eighth straight victory.

First-year Kyla Greenleaf (Topsham, Maine) put together her fourth consecutive double-digit scoring performance with 19 on 6-9 shooting—adding seven rebounds, three assists, and four steals to the stat sheet. Rookie point guard Hannah Richards (Bradley, Maine) chipped in her usual 14 points in 28 minutes of work and first-year Allexius Theberge (Standish, Maine) again provided life off the bench with 11 points and four rebounds.

Kaeti Butterfield led the way for the Moose with 14 points and six rebounds.

SMCC continues to ride the top of the conference standings at 9-1, 15-2 overall. UMA stands third at 6-2 and 10-5 on the season.

Next, the Lady Wolves host the Rams from Springfield Technical College in non-conference play on Sunday, Jan. 30. Tip-off at The HUB is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. **No spectators allowed.
