SeaWolves Beat Lynx, Remain YSCC Top Seed

CONCORD, N.H.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team came away with a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) 40-point victory at NHTI on Wednesday, Feb. 2.

The SeaWolves closed the first frame on a 14-2 run to lead 22-7. SMCC continued to rally on offense putting up 23 or more in each of the final three quarters to win 97-57.

First-year guards Paige St. Pierre (Waterville, Maine) and Hannah Richards (Bradley, Maine) scored 17 points apiece. Center Aija Andrews (Norwalk, Conn.) scored a season-high 20 points on an efficient 10-14 shooting and ripped nine rebounds, six offensive. Captain Bailey Whitney (Norway, Maine) totaled her third double-double of her sophomore campaign with 12 points and 11 rebounds in 23 minutes of work.

NHTI's Jessica Allen led her team with 18 points off the bench.

SMCC stands in sole possession of the top seed in the YSCC standings at 10-1, 16-2 overall. NHTI dips to .500 at 5-5 in league play and 7-7 on the season.

The Lady SeaWolves continue their conference stretch in a make-up with the Panthers from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences on Saturday, Feb. 5. Tip-off at The HUB is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

**Spectators are welcome back! Those who wish to attend must (1) mask at all times and (2) provide proof of vaccination upon entry, and if eligible, must show proof of booster.
