SeaWolves Drub Great Bay, Advance To YSCC Semis

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The #2 Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team overpowered the #7 Herons from Great Bay Community College (GBCC) 105-28 in the Quarterfinal round of the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) playoffs on Saturday, Feb. 19.

The SeaWolves outscored the Herons 23-10 in the first frame and limited the opposition to single digits the rest of the way. On the offensive end, SMCC connected on 42.2 percent shooting and assisted on 31 of 43-made field goals to match its season-high point total.

Everyone found the scoresheet for the SeaWolves, and six finished in double figures. First-year guard Jaycee Cole (Jay, Maine) led the way with a career-high 15 points—adding nine assists and three steals. First-year forward Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine) contributed 14 off the bench and first-year captain Kyla Greenleaf (Topsham, Maine) banked her usual 12.

GBCC's Madison Lovely led her team with 14 points and 15 rebounds in 40 minutes of work.

SMCC improves to 19-3 overall, and Great Bay's season comes to a close at 3-15.

The SeaWolves will play host to the #3 Moose from the University of Maine at Augusta in a Semifinal matchup on Wednesday, Feb. 23. Tip time TBA.
