SMCC Women Earn Weekend Sweep At HVIAC/YSCC Challenge

POTTERSVILLE, New York – The Seawolves (3-1) traveled to the Word of Life Bible Institute (WOLBI) campus in upstate New York to take part in the HVIAC/YSCC Challenge, where they picked up a pair of wins over the Knights from Berkeley College and the Huskies from WOLBI on Friday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 12.

After a close first quarter, the Seawolves pulled away by outscoring Berkeley 22-9 in the second quarter and never looked back, taking the win, 68-50 on Friday. Sophomore captain Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine) was scorching hot from beyond the arc, knocking down six three-pointers and shooting 9-15 from the field overall on the way to 24 points. Senior Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine) posted 14 points, nine rebounds and three steals off the bench while junior captain Ashleigh Mathisen (Portland, Maine) added 10 points and four assists. Junior captain Bailey Whitney (Norway, Maine) added five points and 10 rebounds.

SMCC's offense got going early and often on Saturday, putting up 20-plus points in the first three quarters as they rolled to a 95-50 win over Word of Life. York's double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds led the way for the Seawolves while first-year captain Jaylyn Bartolome (Sanford, Maine) recorded 17 points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals. Junior guard Hope Butler (Rockland, Maine) notched 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists off the bench.
