Late Comeback Fuels Warriors Over Seawolves

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team suffered its first loss in eight games, falling to Massasoit Community College 72-63 at The HUB on Sunday, Dec. 4.

The Seawolves outscored their opponent in both of the first two quarters to lead at the break 36-31. With the score even at 44-44, the Warriors rattled off a 13-2 run that spanned the third and fourth quarters. Trailing by an 11-point margin at the 6:22 mark, the clock would expire on a Seawolves comeback.

Junior captain Tara Flanders (Windham, Maine) logged her first double-double of the season going for 17 points and 12 rebounds. First-year Jaylyn Bartolome (Sanford, Maine) pitched in 12 points on 4-9 shooting, and first-year forward Jasmine Aloisio (South Berwick, Maine) ripped 10 rebounds.

Massasoit's Zanashia Croft topped all scorers with 20 points, making 9-10 from the free throw line.

SMCC slips to 8-2 overall; Massasoit gets to 3-1.

The Seawolves get back to Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) action when they travel to Great Bay Community College on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Tip-off in Portsmouth, N.H. is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
