SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The lady Seawolves took on the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) in non-conference action inside The HUB on Saturday, January 28. It was a close game from beginning to end with a final score of 70-68, CCRI the victor.

At the half, Southern Maine community College (SMCC) trailed CCRI by two points. The Seawolves strung together an exciting third quarter, scoring 23 points to take the lead, but lost their momentum in the final quarter. CCRI closed the point gap and grappled back and forth with SMCC for the lead, eventually running away with it in the final minutes of the game. Not willing to go down easy, the Seawolves finished with a late three-pointer made by sophomore Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine).

York finished with 16 points and four rebounds. Junior Captain Ashleigh Mathisen (Portland, Maine) also stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points and four rebounds.

CCRI was led by Maggie Schwab, who scored 17 points and added nine rebounds, and Ashley Lima, who tallied 14 points and nine rebounds.

The Seawolves trip to 13-5 overall, their conference record remains 8-1.

SMCC's next game is at home against the University of Maine at Fort Kent at 1:00pm on Sunday, January 29.
