SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team defeated the Vermont Technical College (VTC) Knights for the second week in a row in another lopsided victory 96-40 on Saturday, February 25.

The Seawolves took an early lead and only added to it as the game progressed. The Seawolves finished the game outscoring the Knights 32-6 in the final 10 minutes.

Junior captain Tara Flanders (Windham, Maine) put together a strong performance to a tune of 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Sophomore Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine) scored 18 points and nabbed four steals; and first-Year Kaiyla Delisle (Cumberland, Maine) finished the game with a double-double, 12 points and 15 rebounds.

Despite fouling out in the fourth quarter, Coreeahn Yharborough led the Knights with 20 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.

Head Coach Katie Stannard was happy with her team's performance and spoke optimistically about her semifinal matchup, "Yesterday was a great team win and a fitting end to our last game at the HUB. The women were focused and moved the ball well and it didn't matter the combination on the floor, everyone was ready to go. We look forward to carrying that with us next weekend."

The Seawolves change to 19-7 overall.

SMCC will square off with #3 University of Maine at Augusta in the semifinal round on Saturday March 4. Tip-off at Central Maine Community College is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
