Strong Start Powers Seawolves Over Eastern Maine CC

The women’s soccer team used a strong team effort to beat Eastern Maine Community College 7-1.  The Seawolves scored five goals in the first seventeen minutes of play and never allowed EMCC a chance to come back.

Sophomore Esther Palmieri (South Portland, ME) scored the first goal for the Seawolves off an assist from Kellianne MacFarlane less than four minutes into the game.  MacFarlane followed that up with a goal of her own assisted by freshman Bethany Gullbrand (Portland, ME). MacFarlane ended the game with two goals and one assist. Sophomore Noelle Cooper (Scarborough, ME) scored two goals. Senior Cady Gagnon (Biddeford, ME) scored a goal and two assists and Gullbrand contributed three assists.  Freshman defender Ali Waterman (Cumberland, ME) scored the first collegiate goal of her career with an unassisted shot from midfield.

Head Coach Adam Perron was pleased with the effort displayed by his team.  All but one of SMCC’s goals were assisted. “The girls really worked well together. We saw a lot of good distribution and passing,” praised Perron.

The Seawolves improve to 4-3 in YSCC play and overall. They play Eastern Maine Community College again on Wednesday, October 5 at home.
