2011 Women's Soccer Season Preview

2011 Women's Soccer Season Preview

Practices are underway for the 2011 SMCC Women's Soccer season.  The Seawolves are looking forward to new beginnings with a large number of first year contributors including first year head coach Adam Perron.   A native of South Portland Maine, Perron coached at South Portland and Deering in the past and is happy to be back on the sideline.  He intends to lead the Seawolves back to the playoffs, where they were absent last year.  Perron says "The players have progressed well during a challenging pre-season and are ready to compete."

The program welcomes the return of last year's leading goal scorer Cady Gagnon (Biddeford, ME), Noelle Cooper (Scarborough, ME) and Esther Palmieri (South Portland, ME). All three returners will use their experience to provide continuity to a team eager to start playing.

New additions include the Saavedra twins, Krystal and Stephanie, Bethany Gullbrand, all from Deering High School (Portland, ME) and Hannah Lyons (Scarborough, ME). Newcomer Ali Waterman (Cumberland, ME) will anchor the defense while Callie Day (Porter, ME) will provide a spark from the midfield.

The Seawolves have a competitive schedule including rivals Central Maine Community College and New Hampshire Technical Institute.  The team is also excited to face new conference member University of Maine Machias. The season opens up on Saturday, September 10th at University of Maine-Augusta.
