Eleven SMCC Athletes Named to YSCC All-Academic Team

South Portland, ME. – Eleven SMCC Athletes were named to the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) All- Academic team. Five of these players are on the men’s soccer team; five are on the women’s soccer team and one on the golf team. These student-athletes were selected for their outstanding academic performances this season as they had to maintain a 3.2 grade point average (GPA) or higher and had to pass at least 12 credits.

The SMCC men’s soccer program contributed five student athletes to the list: Freshman forward Jonathon D’Haiti (South Portland, ME) is a Liberal Studies major with a GPA of 3.4. Freshman forward Jake Freeman (Fayette, ME) is a Fire Science major with a GPA of 3.3. Junior midfielder Kyle Ehlers (Ludlow, VT) is studying Para medicine and has a GPA of 3.5. Junior midfielder Adam Burpee (South Portland, ME) will graduate with a degree in Liberal Studies and currently has a GPA of 3.3. Senior defenseman James Wurgler (Gray, ME) is an Automotive Technology major and has a GPA of 3.3.

The SMCC Women’s Soccer team also produced five student athletes on the list: Freshman midfielder Erica Desjardins (Saco, ME) is currently studying Radiation Therapy and has a GPA of 3.46. Freshman goalkeeper Katryna Gilson (Portland, ME) is studying Criminal Justice and has a GPA of 3.84. Freshman defender Shannon Blanchard (Windsor, ME) is studying Radiography and has a GPA of 3.5. Sophomore midfielder Emily Bard (Fort Kent, ME) will graduate with a degree in Business and currently has a GPA of 3.22. Sophomore midfielder Bethany Gullbrand (Portland, ME) is majoring in Hospitality Management and has a GPA of 3.26.

The lone Southern Maine Community College golf player selected to the All-Academic Team is freshman Chris Pierce (Waterboro, ME). He is currently  Liberal Studies major and has a GPA of 3.58
