Lady Seawolves Fall to Clippers in Battle

South Portland - This afternoon's soccer action showcased the Lady Seawolves of SMCC and the Lady Clippers of the University of Maine - Machias. The teams were tied at two goals a piece as they entered double overtime but two minutes later Clipper forward Brooklynne Lewis chipped the ball into the right corner of the net to solidify the 3-2 win for the Clippers. The winning goal was Lewis' third of her hat trick performance in today's contest.

Lewis scored her first goal 5:54 seconds into regulation but the Seawolves defense contained Lewis and the rest of the Clippers for the remainder of the half entering half time trailing 1-0. Three minutes into the second period Seawolves' midfielder Zyrah Giustra (New Sharon, ME) buried a ball in the back of the net off a pass from forward Danielle McCusker (South Portland, ME) to knot the contest at 1-1. Lewis countered with her second goal off a well played ball from teammate Madeline Aromando at the 56th minute. Seawolves' forward Katy Cyr (Chicopee, MA) leveled the playing field at two goals each when she netted a shot for the first time in her collegiate playing career at the 81:22 mark. Both teams went scoreless in overtime until Lewis delivered the dagger at 102:08 when she dribbled around a Seawolves defender and put the ball past Seawolves goalkeeper Aime Worcester (Naples, ME).

Worcester had 11 saves for the game.

This loss drops the Seawolves to 1-2-1 overall. They will take the field again on Tuesday September 16th at home against NHTI at 4:30pm.
