Lynx Down Seawolves

Lynx Down Seawolves

South Portland - In this afternoon's action packed women's soccer game the crowd got to take in plenty of scoring action as the Lady Lynx of New Hampshire Technical Institute defeated the Lady Seawolves by a score of 4-2.

The Lynx struck first on offense when Nicole Collette shot a high freekick that went just over Seawolves' goalkeeper Aime Worcester's (Naples, ME) fingertips and into the back of the net. At the 20 minute mark the Lady Lynx found themselves in a break away situation, slipping past the Seawolves' defense and going two on one against Worcester, Stefani Gauthier passed to teammate Sahara Brown who chipped it in and put the Lynx on top 2-0.  Right before halftime Seawolves' defender Shannon Blanchard (Windsor, ME) launched a ball that landed in front of teammate Katy Cyr (Chicopee, MA) positioned herself in front of the net, when Lynx goalie Carissa Pelletier starting coming out towards the ball Cyr made her pay by chipping it over her head and putting SMCC on the scoreboard.

In second half action an NHTI shot attempted that was deflected by a Worcester dive, bounced out to the foot of Lynx forward Jasmine Bernier who took advantage of an open net and put the Lynx up 3-1. The Seawolves responded at 67:36 when Zyrah Giustra (New Sharon, ME) passed a cornerkick to Cyr who tapped it back, setting Giustra up to bury a perfectly placed ball over the Pelletier and into the left corner of the net. With 23 minutes left the Seawolves found themselves trailing by a lone goal with an opportunity to tie the game. But the Lady Lynx expanded the lead for the final time with ten minutes remaining in regulation when Brown headed in a cornerkick from Collette to clinch the 4-2 victory.

Pelletier had nine save on 11 shots for the Lady Lynx and Worcester had four saves on eight shots for the Seawolves.

With this loss the Lady Seawolves drop to 1-3-1 overall and 0-2-1 in YSCC play. They will be back in action on Saturday September 20th at Unity College at 1pm.
