Lady SeaWolves Fall Short In Top-Seeded Showdown

CONCORD, New Hampshire— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team fell short in its Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) match between New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) 4-0 in Concord, N.H. on Thursday, Sept. 9.

NHTI's Cealia Sartwell opened up the scoring with a chip from inside the box at the 24-minute mark. New Hampshire struck again when Alexis Duclos connected from 20-yards. NHTI held a 2-0 lead at the half.

Shannon Hart, of NHTI, scored a pair of second half goals to seal a 4-0 victory for her team. The game was called in the 70th minute due to inclement weather conditions.

Kaylah Abdul had the lone shot-on-goal for the Lady SeaWolves. Sophomore goal keeper Chelcie Phinney (Winthrop, Maine) recorded four saves on eight opposing shots-on-goal.

SMCC now stands 1-1-0 overall and in YSCC play. NHTI improves to 3-0-0 overall, and claims the top spot in the South Division of the conference sporting a 2-0 record.

The action continues when the Lady SeaWolves play host to the Mustangs of Central Maine Community College on Sunday, Sept. 11. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Wainwright Field.
