Hannah Fields Breaks All-Time Points Record

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine.— Hannah Fields (Shapleigh, Maine) of the Southern Maine Community College women's soccer team recorded her sixth assist of the season against Dean College in the Lady SeaWolves regular season finale on Monday, Oct. 10. With that assist, Fields moved past Cady Gagnon (2008-11) to become the all-time points leader in program history. She has tallied 57 career points, 27 a season ago and 30 thus far in her 2016 campaign. Fields also ranks first all-time in goals scored with 24 and is tied for second all-time in assists with nine.

This season, Fields ranks third in the Yankee Small College Conference in points (30), third in goals (12), and is tied for second in assists (6).

The co-captain of the Lady SeaWolves will have at least one more match to add to her career totals when SMCC travels to the University of Maine- Machias to face the 5-1 Clippers in its YSCC North Division play-in game on Monday, Oct. 17.

Head Coach Julia Cyr is proud of her center midfielder. Cyr said, "Breaking a record like that requires one simple, yet extremely difficult, thing to do- never stop working. Since day one of her first preseason with me, Hannah has never stopped working. She improves in the offseason, trains hard all season, and plays hard every game. This is the perfect example of hard work paying off. This is the reason she is so dangerous no matter where she plays in our system. Constantly making things happen for herself and her teammates, she makes every around her better. She will leave after two years with many accolades including this one. In my opinion, her most impressive achievement is her 4.0 GPA to pair with her outstanding effort on the field. She is the epitome of a 'student-athlete,' she's a pleasure to coach and team will miss her tremendously."

On her accomplishment, Fields commented, "I'm honored to have left my mark on the women's soccer team as I did. To be in the conversation with many talented alumni is a great feeling. I would like to thank my teammates and Coach Cyr for their support and my family for always pushing me to be better."
