Emilienne Biddings-Augustine: Student-Athlete Spotlight

By Kylie Johnson

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Emilienne Biddings-Augustine (New Gloucester, Maine) is a first-year midfielder/forward for the Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women’s soccer team. Despite being a more recent addition, Emilienne has already been an impactful member of the program. She has played 16 games for the Seawolves, starting seven of them and scoring a total of six goals.

Emilienne started playing soccer when she was three years old, encouraged by her mother who shares a love for the sport. In middle school she started playing as a striker, a role she has continued to this day. Alex Morgan, who plays striker for the United States Women’s National Team is Emilienne favorite athlete due to her skill set on the field and their shared position.

SMCC's radiography program is what originally drew Emilienne to attend the College, but her experience as part of the women’s soccer program has made all the difference. She plans to pursue her bachelor’s degree after SMCC but hasn’t made any official decisions as of yet.

When asked about Emilienne, Head Coach Ethan Wells said, “Emilienne has been a wonderful addition to the women’s soccer program, making an immediate impact as a first-year! One of the hardest working players I’ve ever coached, she never runs out of energy and her teammates adore her. Part of our national tournament success this year was, in part, attributed to Em’s willingness to take on challenging assignments. Her dedication in the classroom and passion on the field truly embody the meaning of ‘student-athlete.’ I look forward to seeing her shine throughout the rest of her journey at SMCC.”

Some fun things to know about Emilienne is that she loves turtles, she wishes she could be a professional snowboarder and her pre-game includes a seltzer and listening to Icon by Jaden Smith.

You can watch Emilienne and her team play this coming fall 2023 semester!
