Men’s Soccer Advances to YSCC Final Four

South Portland, ME. The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team beat Central Maine Community College (CMCC) for the third time this season to advance to the Yankee Small College Conference Final Four Tournament. The two teams met as the number two and three seeds in the Eastern Division of the YSCC. The winner advancing with number one seed, Machias, and the top two teams of the Western Division for the YSCC final four tournament.

The Seawolves wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as freshman midfielder Matt McClure (Buxton, ME) scored off an assist from freshman Bojan Sikima (Laconia, NH) in the 7th minute of the first half. The Seawolves kept the offensive pressure on for most of the first half, getting off 12 shots. SMCC went up 2-0 right before halftime when freshman Kyle Steifken (Vassalboro, ME) scored a goal with three minutes remaining in the half off an assist from Jacob Smith (Gorham, ME).

CMCC refused to go down without a fight in the second half.  The Mustangs made the defense wake up and managed to outshoot the Seawolves 8-5 in the last 45 minutes. Freshman goalie Robby Griffin (Union, ME) played all 90 minutes for the Seawolves and recorded 11 saves. The Seawolves outlasted the Mustangs' surge to take the 2-0 victory and advance to the Final Four Tournament. The tournament will be held at NHTI this Saturday and Sunday, October 20th and 21st. Game times will be released on Wednesday, October 17th.
