Women Rank First, Men Sixth in USCAA Week Seven Poll

NORFOLK, Va.— In the release of the weekly United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) basketball coaches poll on Friday, Jan. 27, the Southern Maine Community College women remain the top-ranked team and the men sixth among all Division II programs in the association.

The SMCC women received 247 total points, one point better than Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) rival Central Maine Community College, for the top spot in the country. The four other YSCC teams receiving rankings were: University of Maine at Augusta (6) up two spots, New Hampshire Technical Institute (7) down one, College of St. Joseph’s (VT) (13) down two, and the University of Maine at Machias (20) down one.

On the men’s side, SMCC received a total of 265 points to receive its highest ranking of the season, and better than any YSCC team. Among the four other YSCC programs making the poll were: NHTI (8), CMCC (11) down one, CSJ (18) down three, with Vermont Technical College rounding out the poll at 20. Berkeley College (NY) remains the unanimous point-getter and top team in the Division II national rankings.

Both the SMCC men and women continue their home stand next week in hosting NHTI on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
