NORFOLK, Va.— In the release of the weekly United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) basketball coaches poll on Friday, Feb. 3, the Southern Maine Community College women rank second and the men sixth among all Division II programs in the association.
The SMCC women received 294 total points, two points shy of top-ranked Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) rival Central Maine Community College, for the second spot in the coaches’ poll. The four other YSCC teams receiving rankings were: University of Maine at Augusta (8) down two spots from last week’s poll, New Hampshire Technical Institute (9) down two, College of St. Joseph’s (VT) (14) down one, and the University of Maine at Machias (19) up one.
On the men’s side, SMCC received a total of 271 points to remain in the sixth position, and better than any YSCC team, for the second consecutive week. Among the three other YSCC programs making the poll were: NHTI (8) down one, and CMCC (10) up one, with CSJ rounding out the poll (T-19) down one. Berkeley College (NY) remains the unanimous point-getter and top team in the Division II national rankings.
Both the SMCC men and women continue their home stand next week in hosting Central Maine Community College, games with both conference and national implications. Tip-offs are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 6 and 8 p.m.
