Gregory Trinidad: Student-Athlete Spotlight

Written by Bridget Fahey.

Lawrence, Mass.—Gregory Trinidad is Southern Maine Community College’s (SMCC) male student-athlete spotlight for the month of February- sophomore shooting guard of the SeaWolves men’s basketball team.

He began his basketball career in sixth grade. So many years later and he is still playing, now at the collegiate level. Gregory explained that his older brother Johndy would go to the local basketball court behind their house to play; eventually Gregory started to follow in his brother’s footsteps.

Gregory explains, "Back home there are a lot of distractions. Basketball taught me discipline and character, giving me the chance to meet a lot of great people [...] it has drastically changed my life for the better."

Gregory is on track to graduate with a CNC Machine Operator Certificate. He comments, "[...] balancing academics with athletics is a valuable skill set to own—something that will benefit later in life."

Gregory describes himself as "laid back" yet outgoing and playful with his teammates on and off the court. At 18 wins and four losses, keeping pace with the direction and “business mentality” Gregory predicts the team will have a great rest of the season.
