Jayme Saulter: Student-Athlete Spotlight

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine-- Jayme Saulter is October’s student-athlete spotlight. Hailing from Waterville, Maine, Saulter is a transfer student to Southern Maine Community College as a junior and is in her first season as a member of the women’s soccer team.

Before enrolling at SMCC, Saulter attended Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) for two academic years. Saulter is also a 2014 graduate of Waterville High School where she excelled as a four-year student-athlete in both women’s soccer and tennis. Saulter was a Maine State Finalist in tennis all four years. She also frequented national dance tournaments in hip hop, contemporary, and tap with her dance studio in high school.

Saulter is an Early Childhood Education major at SMCC and plans to graduate next year with her Associate’s degree. She has aspirations to own her own daycare business in the future and currently works as a nanny for a family of three children in Portland. Saulter is managing a four-course load and is loving her experience at SMCC. She raves, “The teachers are wonderful. They really care about their students and are willing take the extra step to help us learn.”

On the soccer pitch, Saulter plays as the Lady SeaWolves’ center back, anchoring a strong defensively line. She was named co-captain of the team by Head Coach Julia Cyr, bringing a veteran presence that many of the girls look up to. Saulter affirmed, “I love all of the girls on the team and have made so many lifelong friends. I’ve also developed such a great connection with both of my coaches. I’m happy to be part of a team and playing competitively again.”

Saulter has played in all seven games thus far in the 2016 season and has recorded one assist.

In the off-season, Saulter is an avid alpine skier and snowboarder. You’ll find her on the slopes of Sugarloaf most weekend of the winter months, “it’s my favorite place on earth.”
