Seawolves Baseball starts on a positive note

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball completed a doubleheader sweep of Quincy College in its first of the year on Saturday, Sept. 9.

Game 1: W, 6-0
The game started with both teams failing to score in the first three innings. However, the Seawolves broke the deadlock in the fourth frame, scoring two runs. They continued their dominance in the sixth inning, scoring four more runs to seal the victory.

Quincy College totaled five hits, with Francy, Tilton, Ulatowski, Marujama, and Mccallister each contributing. However, their efforts were not enough to generate any runs. SMCC had six hits, with first-years Peter Keblinsky (Ellsworth, Maine) and Quinn Dillon (Gorham Maine) leading the way with two hits apiece. Rookie Ethan Orsini (Peru, Mass.) had a standout performance, hitting a double, driving in three runs.

SMCC starter Thomas Knott (Winterport, Maine) threw six scoreless innings, allowing only four hits. He struck out six batters and walked only one. First-year Nolan Hoffler (North Dartmouth, Mass.) also pitched one scoreless inning in relief. For Quincy, Tilton started the game and pitched four innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Francy came in for relief but struggled, giving up four runs in two innings.

 

Game 2: W, 7-0
The Seawolves quickly gained momentum in the second inning, scoring three runs. They continued to add to their lead with one in the third and three more in the fourth.

The SMCC offense saw multiple players contributing to the team's victory— Brady O'Lone (Fort Myers, Fl.), Ryan Thurber (South Portland, Maine), Adam Rowland (Okotoks, Alberta, Canada), and Brady Navalany (Arvada, Colo.), Keblinksy, and Orsini all collected RBIs. Liam Cooledge (Westbrook, Maine) also had a notable performance, driving in a run with a sacrifice fly.

On the pitching side, first-year Jason Libby (Bangor, Maine) was the standout player. He pitched five innings, allowing only three hits and no runs while striking out eight batters. Gabe Aucoin (Bath, Maine) and Max Noto (Wentzville, Mo.) also made appearances on the mound, shutting down the Quincy offense.
