Ben Gravel enters his second season as Head Baseball Coach at Southern Maine Community College.
In his inaugural 2024–25 season, Gravel led the Seawolves to a 23-13 overall record, finishing 12-4 in Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) play and earning a #1 regular season seed. His efforts earned him YSCC Coach of the Year honors. Under his guidance, SMCC featured several standout performers, including YSCC Player of the Year Quinn Dillon and Pitcher of the Year Max Noto, both of whom also received USCAA Second Team All-American recognition. The team placed as YSCC tournament runner-up and excelled academically with six players earning USCAA Academic All-American honors.
Prior to his appointment at SMCC, Gravel served as an assistant coach at Merrimack College (NCAA Div. 1) for the 2023–24 season, focusing on hitting and outfielder defense. Merrimack topped the Northeast Conference in most major offensive categories in 2024.
A New Hampshire native, Gravel played and graduated from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine (NCAA Div. 3) with his bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Sport Management (2020), then earned his master’s in Education (2024). He served on SJC’s baseball staff during the 2022–23 season, with responsibilities in hitting instruction and recruitment.
Beyond college coaching, Gravel was Head Coach of the 15U Northeast Baseball team (N.H.) and served as Assistant Hitting Director at Powerhouse Sports in 2021.
As a player, Gravel competed in the Empire Professional Baseball League as an outfielder for the Saranac Lake Surge in 2022 and 2023, earning 2022 East All-Star honors for his performance at the plate.
