BRIDGTON, Maine – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball couldn't overcome Bridgton Academy hitting in a 9-5 road loss on Monday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Bridgton plated three runs in the bottom of the first without recording a hit, taking advantage of five walks and a hit-by-pitch to jump ahead early. The Seawolves answered with three runs of their own in the third inning, highlighted by a sacrifice fly from Aaron Whitman (Bennington, Vermont) and RBI knocks from Quinn Dillon (Gorham, Maine) and Alex Bean (Westbrook, Maine).
After SMCC tied the game 3-3, Bridgton responded by scoring in each of the next four innings. The Seawolves stayed within reach thanks to a solid effort at the plate, collecting 11 hits on the night. Tyler Herkalo (Parkton, Maryland) was a bright spot, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, a walk, a run scored, and a stolen base.
Despite the offense, SMCC's pitching staff issued 13 walks over six innings. Noah Hebert (Candia, New Hampshire) took the loss, while Noah Gaghan (Brunswick, Maine) and Jack Morris (Millinocket, Maine) worked in relief.
