OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball dropped a tight 6-5 contest to the YCCC Hawks on Thursday night in a back-and-forth conference showdown.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Seawolves struck first, scoring in the top of the first on an RBI single from Alex Bean (Westbrook, Maine) that brought home Quinn Dillon (Gorham, Maine). SMCC would add another in the third on another Dillon RBI knock to tie the game at 2-2.
After YCCC posted a five-run third inning to surge ahead 6-2, SMCC began chipping away. Brady Wintle (Gorham, Maine) doubled home a run in the fourth and later scored on a Bean single in the seventh to pull SMCC within one.
On the mound, Garrett McLeod (Winterport, Maine) battled through six innings with nine strikeouts, but allowed six earned runs on nine hits. Adam Rowland (Okotoks, Alberta, Canada) tossed two scoreless innings in relief to keep the Seawolves in it.
Despite out-hitting the Hawks 11–8 and drawing within striking distance late, SMCC was unable to complete the comeback.
