SMCC Baseball Rolls Past NHTI at Home

GAME ONE:

SOUTH PORTLAND, MAINE – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball opened Tuesday's doubleheader with a well-rounded 8-5 win over NHTI at Graves Athletic Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Seawolves plated two runs in both the second and third innings and broke things open with a three-run fourth. SMCC capitalized on nine walks and four NHTI errors while collecting eight hits.

Aaron Whitman (Bennington, Vermont) and Quinn Dillon (Gorham, Maine) each tallied two hits, with Whitman also driving in two runs and stealing a base. Alex Bartlett (Thomaston, Maine) chipped in a pair of RBIs, while Dante Tocci(Portland, Maine) added two more.

Leudys Castillo (Estero, Florida) earned the win in the start, allowing four runs across five innings with six strikeouts. Tocci entered in the seventh to close out the game and pick up the save.

GAME TWO:

SOUTH PORTLAND, MAINE – SMCC kept the momentum rolling with a 10-1 victory in Game Two, backed by a 13-hit outburst and a standout outing from Garrett McLeod (Winterport, Maine).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Seawolves scored in the first, second, and fifth innings while holding NHTI to a single run. Zach Oliver (Gloucester, Massachusetts) led the offense, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Tyler Herkalo (Parkton, Maryland) added two hits and three RBIs, and Adam Rowland (Okotoks, Alberta, Canada) also drove in a pair.

McLeod showed control from the start, tossing six innings of three-hit shutout ball, striking out three. Jack Morris(Millinocket, Maine) finished the game with a clean seventh inning in relief.

The Seawolves are back in action Thursday, April 24, when they host Central Maine Community College in a YSCC nine-inning showdown for the first seed in the conference. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30PM.
