Seawolves Win Fourth Straight

South Portland - Sophomore shooting guard Grayson Waterman (Berwick, ME) netted a game high 20 points and grabbed seven boards to lead the Seawolves to their fourth consecutive win, 84-76 over the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI).

The Knights came out firing, taking an early 7-4 lead but a shot from downtown by Waterman knotted the game at 7-7, the first of four ties in the game. The Knights' proceeded to rattle off nine unanswered points, with five of those coming from shooting guard Adrian LaFleur to take their largest lead of the game, 16-7. The Seawolves answered back with an 11-0 run that started with a Jordan DeRosby (Waterville, ME) free throw, to get back on top by two. The Seawolves outscored the Knights by five in the final eight minutes of the first half giving them a seven point cushion going into the break. 

In the first seven minutes of the second half CCRI scored 30 points, which included five made three pointers by shooting guard Elijah Vazquez, to give the Knights a 54-45 lead. CCRI held onto their nine point lead until three consecutive layups by Seawolves' forward Dylan Silvestri (Pelham, NH) slashed the Knights' lead to three. CCRI was able to maintain a small advantage until Jack Tolan (South Portland, ME) connected on a layup and two free throws to give SMCC a three point edge. The Knights were able to whittle the lead back down to one but the Seawolves were able to hold them off and pick up the 84-76 victory. 

Joining Waterman on the leaderboard were point guards Ville Wuorenjuuri (Helsinki, Finland) and DeRosby who each pitched in with 13 points. 

Pacing the Knights were Edvaldo Ferreira and LaFleur who netted 17 apiece and Vazquez who ended with 15. 

With this win the Seawolves improve to 9-12 overall. They will be back in action on Wednesday the 20th when the travel to Unity College for an 8pm tip.
