UNIONTOWN, Pa. – The #5 Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team concluded its United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) championship run suffering defeat to #4 Penn State University Greater Allegheny 81-51 inside the Maltho Gymnasium on Thursday, Mar. 2.

Senior Michael Harmon (Portland, Maine) led SMCC with 10 points in just 11 minutes and 4-9 shooting from the field.

The Lions landed four starters in double-digit scoring, the other with 10 rebounds. Greater Allegheny's Jeremy McMunn led all scorers in the game with 18 points. Curtis Newby notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The teams traded baskets to begin the quarter-final game, but Greater Allegheny was quick to pull away on a 17-2 run leaving SMCC down 38-17 at the half. Uncharacteristically, the SeaWolves were unable to find their own run in the second half to get them to within striking distance.

SMCC posted a season-low 51 points in the contest on a mere 26 percent shooting from the floor.

Following the contest, Head Coach Matt Richards tweeted, "Our national championship run ends this season with a loss to PSU Greater Allegheny. Disappointed in the loss but not in this group."
