Strong Second Half Powers SMCC Over UNBSJ

AUBURN, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team stayed perfect over the weekend with a 82-68 win over the University of New Brunswick- St. John (Canada) on day two of the Can Am Tournament, Sunday, Oct. 29.

SMCC got off to a 12-4 start before erupting for another 15-2 run to close the half leading 39-27. The SeaWolves were lifted by junior Ryan Cloutier (Pelham, N.H.) who scored 13 of his 22 points in the second half. The 6'6'' forward finished with a career high in points, making 4-10 from beyond the arc.

Sophomore Trenton Coleman-Bishop (Bethlehem, Pa.) also had himself a career day netting 15 (10 in the second half) while shooting an efficient 6-8 from the floor, 3-3 from three-point land. Co-captains Dylan Silvestri (Pelham, N.H.) and Anderson Kavutse (Westbrook, Maine) combined for 18 points and 15 rebounds to help the SeaWolves to a 2-0 start to their season.

In a post-game interview, Assistant Coach AJ Burton commented, "Being it early in the season, I was pleased with our effort on the court and the chemistry on the bench—guys are tuned in and very encouraging. We still have a lot of work to do as we prepare for our home opener this week."

The SeaWolves get back to work against Ben Franklin Institute of Technology on Wednesday, Nov. 1, christening the new floor in the HUB this 2017-18 season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. WATCH.
