SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team rolled the Moose from the University of Maine at Augusta 126-71 in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) battle from The HUB on Wednesday, Jan. 22.

SMCC got off to a blazing start shooting 70 percent in the first half on 40 attempted field goals to post an impressive 69 points before the break. The SeaWolves kept their foot on the gas pedal outscoring the opposition by 23 to tally their largest point total in four seasons.

Persistent defense by the home team limited Moose players to single digit scoring, led by Israel Brown's eight points.

The SeaWolves finished 50 percent from beyond the arc, connecting for 19 triples and scoring 27 points on second-chance opportunities. SMCC committed only nine turnovers and the bench contributed 71 points.

First-year guard Pedro Fonseca (Portland, Maine) led all scorers in the contest with 19, followed by first-year Marios Tsielos (Tripoli, Greece) with 17 and sophomore Colin Baker (East Hampton, Conn.) 16—both combining for 10 threes.

In a post-game interview, AJ Burton commented, "I enjoyed seeing everyone contribute and share the basketball. Having 25 assists on 50 made field goals is quite an accomplishment in itself. In our last few games, we have really been focusing on the offensive end to execute and take great shots—seeing us finally have a night gave us that boost of confidence we need heading into the final stretch of regular season."

The result gets SMCC to 15-4 overall, 9-2 in league play. The Moose sit 3-14 on the year, 3-8 YSCC.
