SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team took down the Buccaneers from Mass Bay Community College 79-57 in non-conference action Saturday, Dec. 4.
The SeaWolves continued their woes from three-point territory but balanced the scoresheet by outrebounding the opposition by 14 and limiting the turnovers 10-19.
Sophomore captain Cameren Cousins (Wells, Maine) continued his dominance in the paint posting his seventh double-double of the season—16 points, 10 rebounds. First-year guard Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Conn.) threw in a season-high 13 points on an efficient 6-11 shooting.
Mass Bay's Juan Salas led his team with 18 points; Lewiss Garcia came down with 16 rebounds.
Head Coach Matt Richards commented, "This was a nice bounce-back win for us. Everyone contributed to a better second half of basketball—getting efficient minutes off the bench from Tommy and Myles. Tomorrow will be a test on the back-to-back with a tough opponent in Berkeley."
The SeaWolves improve to 6-2 on the year; Mass Bay dips to 3-4 overall.
Two top-ranked United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) opponents get together when the #2 SeaWolves play host to the #8 Knights from Berkeley College on Sunday, Dec. 5. Tip-off at The HUB is set for 3 p.m.
