Men’s Basketball Advances To National Tournament Final Four

RICHMOND, Va.—The #5 Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team took down #4 Miami University- Hamilton (OH) 71-57 in the quarterfinal round of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Div. 2 National Tournament on Tuesday, Mar. 8.

Ahead 30-23 at the break, the SeaWolves connected for 50 percent from the field in the second half and controlled the glass to limited yet another high-powered offense to 25 points less than their season-game average.

Four starters finished in double figures, and it was captain and first-team All-American selection Cameren Cousins (Wells, Maine) who led the way with his usual double-double stat line—20 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore captain Zachary Mickle (Billerica, Mass.) poured in four three-pointers and 16 points, and junior captains Ian Regan (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) and DeSean Cromwell (Biddeford, Maine) combined for 26. First-year guard Jack Pyzynski (Saco, Maine) played stand out defense and distributed a career-high 10 assists.

Miami's King Gross led his team with 19 points in 38 minutes of work.

Next, the SeaWolves will face the top-seeded Penn State Mont Alto tomorrow (Wednesday) Mar. 9 in the semifinal round at Virginia State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
