Men’s Basketball Dominates at Home

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball dominated at home this weekend against UConn at Avery Point (UCAP). The game was played on January 15, 2023 and finished with a score of 106-52.

The Seawolves started strong and only increased their lead throughout the game. They were 24 points ahead at the half and finished at a 54-point margin—posting their highest end-game score of the season. The team outperformed their season averages in field goals, free throws and three-point shots.

Sophomore captain Jack Pyzinski (Saco, Maine) lead the team in scoring with 18 points, also getting two assists and one rebound. Sophomore Luke Gabloff (North Yarmouth, Maine), first-year Zach Oliver (Gloucester, Mass.), and sophomore Bode Meader (Gorham, Maine) scored 10 points each for the team.

UCAP's top scorers of the game were Jason Cohen and Jose Balseca, putting up 21 and 13 points respectively.

When asked about the game, Seawolves' Head Coach Matt Richards said that his team came out strong offensively and defensively which "allowed us to get some extra guys in-game opportunities that should serve us well during the late season stretch of our schedule."

With the result of this game the Seawolves' record improves to 13-4 overall, their conference record remaining 5-2. The Seawolves now hold a six-game winning streak.

SMCC plays next at home against Paul Smith College at 3pm on Saturday, January 21.
