CONCORD, N.H. – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team was defeated on the road at NHTI by a score of 73-69 on Wednesday, February 1. This the second and final regular season meeting between the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) foes.

It was a hard-fought game throughout, with five score ties and seven lead changes. The Seawolves trailed by only one point after the first half and never trailed by more than seven points. As a team, the Seawolves outperformed their season field goal average by 7.5 percentage points.

Sophomore captain Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Conn.) dominated the wing position with 21 points, ripping five rebounds for the Seawolves. Sophomore captain Jack Pyzynski (Saco, Maine) contributed 16 points and three rebounds, and first-Year Cayman Warburton (Worcester, Mass.) finished the game with 14 points, six rebounds and four assists.

NHTI was led by James Jones Jr., with 13 points and six rebounds, Joseph Canty, with 12 points and three assists, and Anthony Gauthier with 11 points and three rebounds.

Head Coach Matt Richards pinned the loss on costly turnovers, "When playing on the road against a conference opponent like the caliber of NHTI, you can't afford those mistakes. Tonight we just had too many of them, that at the end of the game made it to challenging to overcome."

SMCC dips to 15-6 overall and 7-3 in conference play.

The Seawolves play next on Saturday, February, against the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS). Tip-off in Newport, R.I. is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
