SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team played to an exciting 68-65 victory over the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) Moose on Sunday, Feb. 12.

It was a close affair from the jump—the Seawolves clung to a 38-32 lead at the break. SMCC distanced themselves from UMA by as much as 16 in the beginning of the second half but the Moose came storming back to take a two-point lead with four minutes to go. The Seawolves would score five unanswered to finish the contest.

Sophomore captain Jack Pyzynski (Saco, Maine) and senior captain DeSean Cromwell (Biddeford, Maine) led the way for the home team. Pyzynski ended with 19 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists, and five steals. Cromwell recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

UMA's Yonas Medfu topped all scorers in the game up 33 points, and his teammates Elijah Smith and Jalaughn Jackson made 14 and 12 points respectively.

When asked about the game Head Coach Matt Richards commented, "Today's game was a perfect example of late-in-the-year conference play with a playoff atmosphere feeling. Both teams executed well and of course it came down to the wire.  Our ability to secure the win was directly related to our efforts out-rebounding UMA."

The men now move their record to 16-7 overall and 8-4 in conference play.

The Seawolves face off against the Mustangs of Central Maine Community College in Auburn on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m.
