Men's Basketball picks up home win over Midshipmen

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine-- The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team collected a 93-82 win over the Midshipmen from the Naval Academy Preparatory School in non-conference action on Saturday, Nov. 4.

The game started with a competitive first half; Navy Prep scoring 46 points, with the home team going into the break with a two-point advantage. Navy Prep's Chandler Dunn and Tobi Raji combined for half of their team's points in the fist 20 minutes. Sophomore  Luke Briggs (Augusta, Maine) recorded a big half, making 4-7 from the field.

The second half witnessed an 8-point lead by Navy Prep near the midway point, 68-60, but the Seawolves poured in nine unanswered points to shift the momentum and eventually climb into the driver's seat with a 12-0 run to finish the game.

Navy Prep's Colin Huang led his team with 22 points and 10 assists. Briggs finished the game with 18 points, 6-11 from the field. Co-captains Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Conn.) and Randy Vasquez (Methuen, Mass.) also contributed to their team's success, scoring 10 and 11 points, respectively. Sophomore center Colby Dillingham (Norway, Maine) logged impactful minutes coming off the bench, scoring 20 points in 15 minutes, to go along with a perfect shooting record.

The Seawolves displayed impressive shooting accuracy, making 47.5% of their field goals. The visitors made runs to stay in the game connecting at a 42.4 percent clip from beyond the arc.

SMCC begins its season 2-0 and will play host to Husson University (NCAA Div. 3) in an exhibition game on Tuesday, Nov. 7. Tip-off at The HUB is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
