Men’s Basketball stays perfect in New York

POTTERSVILLE, N.Y.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team played to two wins in a weekend slate as part of the second annual HVIAC/YSCC Challenge on Friday, Nov. 10 and Saturday, Nov. 11.

SUNY-ESF: W, 101-64 | BOX

The Seawolves outscored their opponent by a 30-point margin in the first half to coast with a comfortable lead in the second. SMCC converted a season-best 52.7 percent from the field and out-rebounded SUNY-ESF by more than double.

Junior co-captain Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Conn.) scored 16 of his 19 total points in the first half, adding seven rebounds and four assists to his game totals. Sophomore co-captain Randy Vasquez (Methuen, Mass) and first-year Charlie Houghton (Dixfield, Maine) each contributed 10 points apiece and combined for 12 boards.

SUNY's Patrick Emery led the way with 20 points and eight rebounds spanning 37 minutes of work.

SMCC carried a five-point lead into the locker room at the break, but strung together a 16-0 run in the early goings of the second half to create lasting separation.

Vasquez led all scorers in the game with 22 points on 10-16 from the floor. Sophomores Cayman Warburton (Worcester, Mass.) and Luke Briggs (Augusta, Maine) each poured in 11 points to help the Seawolves continue their perfect start and improve to 4-0.

Word of Life's Joseph Mathews led his squad with 17 points, 3-6 from downtown.

The Seawolves will open Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) play at the University of Maine at Augusta on Wednesday, Nov. 15. Tip-off at the Augusta Civic Center is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
