SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine-- The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team suffered its third straight loss, this one in overtime at the buzzer 107-105 to NHTI in Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) action Wednesday, Nov. 29.

The game started with SMCC taking an early lead in the first half, outscoring NHTI 46-35. However, NHTI made a strong comeback in the second, scoring 58 points to force overtime at 93-93. With the clock showing less than 5 seconds in the first overtime period and the score even 105-105, NHTI's Terrian Wester picked up an acrobatic steal at the half, and drove the lane to finish a one-handed layup as time expired.

Both teams displayed impressive shooting performances throughout. SMCC connected at 59.4 percent from the field, its highest mark of the season. NHTI finished at 50 percent from beyond the arc on 52 attempts.

Junior co-captain Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Conn.) led his team with 21 points, followed closely by first-year Adam Savage (Skowhegan, Maine) with 19 points. Sophomore co-captain Randy Vasquez (Methuen, Mass.) had a strong presence on the boards with eight.

NHTI's Deshan King poured in 25 points and Joseph Cantey added 23. Wester's heroics came with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

SMCC drops to 5-3 overall, 1-1 in conference play. NHTI remains unbeaten at 7-0, 6-0 in league action.

The action continues when SMCC plays host to the Vikings from Villa Maria College on Saturday, Dec. 2. Tip-off at The HUB is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
