Seawolves grab road win behind Vasquez’ career night

GROTON, Conn.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team picked up its fourth consecutive win by a score of 72-56 at the University of Connecticut— Avery Point on Tuesday, Jan. 9.

The Seawolves produced equal scoring efforts in each half, and improved on their defensive points allowed by holding the Pointers to a sub-30 total in each half.

Sophomore co-captain Randy Vasquez (Methuen, Mass.) scored a career-high 27 points to go along with 15 rebounds spanning 32 minutes of action. Sophomore guard Jay Hawkes (Poland, Maine) landed in double figures coming off the bench with 15, and rookie forward Adam Savage (Skowhegan, Maine) continued his all-around play with 10 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three blocks.

The results moves SMCC to 11-4 overall; Avery Point goes to 3-10.

The action continues when the Seawolves play host to the Panthers from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in the first of two Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) meetings on Saturday, Jan. 13. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at The HUB.
