Men’s Basketball remains perfect in 2024, defeats ACPHS 82-56

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team rolled to an 82-56 win over the Panthers from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) in the first of two Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) regular season meetings on Saturday, Jan. 13.

Rookie Adam Savage (Skowhegan, Maine) scored the first two points of the game to give his team the early advantage—a lead the Seawolves would never relinquish. Junior co-captain Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Conn.) totaled nine of his 13 points in the first half to help SMCC to a 16-point advantage at the break.

The home team piled on 47 points in the second half as 14 different players found the score sheet in the final 20 minutes.

Sophomore Jay Hawkes (Poland, Maine) scored a career-high 20 points, converting 4-5 from beyond the arc and 7-10 from the field. Savage recorded seven points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three blocks spanning 23 minutes on the floor.

ACPHS' Jalon Munoz led his team with 22 points and four steals.

The Seawolves win their fifth straight to move to 12-4 overall, 5-2 in conference play. The Panthers stand 10-5, 1-2 in league action.

The action continues when SMCC plays host to the Herons from Great Bay Community College in the second leg of the YSCC regular season series on Wednesday, Jan. 17. Tip-off at the HUB is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
