Martinotti and company dominant in 82-61 win over UMA

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team completed the regular season series sweep of the University of Maine at Augusta, defeating the Moose 82-61 on Wednesday, Jan. 24.

Early back-and-forth action saw the game equal at 23 apiece near the midpoint of the first half. The Seawolves were efficient from three-point territory to string together an 18-4 run to follow—and to lead at the break 47-35.

The home team continued its scoring production and tightened it up on the defensive end to limit the Moose to nine points fewer than their first half total.

The Seawolves made a season-high 13 three-pointers on 25 attempts (52.0 percent) and cleaned up the glass, 20 better than the opposition.

Junior co-captain Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Conn.) led all scorers in the game with 20—he added nine rebounds and five assists. Rookie forward Adam Savage (Skowhegan, Maine) poured in his usual 11 points and sophomore co-captain Randy Vasquez (Methuen, Mass.) logged his fourth double-double of the season at 11 points and 14 rebounds.

UMA's Elijah Smith came off the bench to score 15 points on 5-10 shooting.

SMCC climbs to 14-5 overall, 7-2 in league play. UMA dips to 11-8, 5-3 YSCC.

The action continues when the Seawolves host the Bobcats from Paul Smith's College in the second leg of the regular season series on Saturday, Jan. 27. Tip-off at The HUB is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
