Seawolves get revenge on Knights 58-47

RANDOLPH, Vt.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team defeated the Knights of Vermont State University- Randolph 58-47 on the road and in its regular season finale Saturday, Feb. 17.

Vermont's Jaylon Calvin scored all of his 12 points in the first half to put his team ahead at the break 26-23. Coach Richards found an answer for Calvin in the second, and sophomore's Cayman Warburton (Worcester, Mass.) and Luke Briggs (Augusta, Maine) teamed up for 21 points in the final 20 minutes to outscore the opposition by 14 in the half.

Briggs finished with 16 points and Warburton with 10. Sophomore co-captain Randy Vasquez (Methuen, Mass.) ripped down 14 rebounds and first-year forward Adam Savage (Skowhegan, Maine) logged six blocks and three assists.

Despite being edged in the turnover battle, SMCC connected for 10 percentage points better from the field and outrebounded the opposition by seven.

Vermont's Xzavier Ivey led his team with 13 points spanning 27 minutes.

The Seawolves get revenge and split the home/away with Vermont to pick up their fifth consecutive win. SMCC improves to 20-6 overall and 11-3 in league action; the Knights finish their regular season at 15-9, 8-6 YSCC.

The Seawolves enter the Yankee Small College Conference post season tournament as the #2 seed and match up with #7 Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in the quarterfinal round Saturday, Feb. 24. Tip-off at The HUB is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
