SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team suffered a 101-73 loss to the University of Maine at Fort Kent (USCAA Div. 1) in its home opener on Saturday, Nov. 9.
The Bengals got off to a hot start shooting 55.6% from beyond the arc in the first half, helping them to a 21-point advantage at the break. The Seawolves began the second half on a 5-0 run to cut their deficit to 16 points. Fort Kent responded with two made threes, which sparked another impressive offensive half, to secure a decisive victory over the Seawolves.
Sophomore forward Charlie Houghton (Dixfield, Maine) led SMCC with 19 points and seven rebounds. First year forward Sean Bosia (Dracut, Mass.) contributed an efficient 14 points on 70.0 percent shooting from the field. Captain Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Conn.) and sophomore guard Julius Silva (Biddeford, Maine) combined for 20 points and nine assists.
The Bengals were led by Jordan Guerrerro, who went 6-9 on three point attempts and scored 24 points. Center Aiden Grady scored 20 points and grabbed seven boards.
SMCC goes to 0-2; Fort Kent improves to 2-1 overall.
Next, the Seawolves will travel to NCAA Div. 3 Lesley University on Thursday, Nov. 14. Tip-off in Cambridge, Mass. is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
